In September, the HEB ESA Board heard that the HEB Food Pantry was critically low on food and jumped into action. Ellen Lobue, a social worker with the
Office of School Improvement, assigned a high-need item for each campus to focus on gathering. By the end of October, the Secretaries' Association's project had gathered over 3,900 food items district wide!
Some schools even conducted contests to raise the volume of contributions. Hurst Hills collected 600 cans of fruit; Meadow Creek collected 253 jars of peanut butter; and Bedford JH collected 411 combined jars of spaghetti sauce and packages of spaghetti.
The week of Oct. 26th was set aside for picking up the food, and Randy Morgan headed up a crew from the Maintenance Department to gather donations. Despite the rainy weather, the routes were faithfully completed each day. It was truly a "team" effort! Ellen Lobue and her helpers at the HEB Food Pantry excitedly reported the food collected will probably last through the holiday season. A BIG "THANK YOU" goes to everyone in the district for filling a huge need for our HEB families.
